Carlisle 0°C

With the help of a professional decoration company, the hospital education center has made more efforts to ensure the safety of faculty, staff and students.

The chairs and seats of the James George Education Center in the Carlisle Cumberland Infirmary have been refurbished on easy-to-clean antibacterial surfaces to help prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The work was done by the interior decoration and design company Ghyll House in Mealsgate near Cockermouth, Cumbria. This is the latest project in a series of projects in the medical field of the Ghyll House team. The team has completed similar work for multiple GP surgeries in Cumbria and Yorkshire.

The classroom chairs and the seats in the reception area and the staff lounge area were re-decorated with anthracite gray antibacterial vinyl, replacing the original fabric covering.

Stephen Graham, library and learning facilities manager for the NHS Foundation Trust Fund for Comprehensive Health in North Cumbria, said it is vital that the facilities in the education center meet the highest standards.

He said: "The education of trust fund staff is very important.

Must continue under whatever circumstances we currently encounter.

"Training is mandatory to ensure that employees can perform their duties according to best evidence and good practices.

"In the current climate, the existing fabric chairs are not suitable for use at all. When I discovered that Ghyll House could re-decorate our existing chairs with a material that is easy to hygienic, I have been studying The possibility of buying a new chair. It is cheaper than buying a new chair, and it also means that we can provide support to local companies."

Ghyll House rearranged more than 50 items for the center, including 46 classroom chairs and 6 seats in the reception area and staff rest area. The work was carried out in the company's workshop in Mealsgate, with few visits to the education center and in compliance with Covid-19 regulations.

Stephen said: "Gillhouse did a great job. They are organized, efficient, and can deliver exactly what we need. I would definitely recommend them."

Joe McAlpine, general manager of Ghyll House Upholstery and Design, said the company is working with customers across the medical field to provide cost-effective solutions to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

He said: "Antibacterial fabrics and vinyl materials provide a fast-acting, effective and durable surface that can be easily disinfected to ensure the highest hygiene standards.

"We are very pleased to be able to help the team at the James George Education Center and provide suitable alternatives to their existing fabric chairs."

The James George Education Center provides training and education for the staff of Cumberland Medical Clinic. Classrooms and seminar rooms are used for health education and teaching in various fields from resuscitation to health and safety, as well as clinical training for junior doctors and nursing staff. The center also has a lecture hall and library.

In 2017, the foundation was renamed the James George Education Center. Prior to this, Dr. James (Jim) George, the former senior care consultant of the foundation and the clinical director of research and development, advocated the importance of education and research.

The North Cumbria General Medical NHS Foundation Trust also operates and manages an education center at West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
