Joel A. Katz, the founding chairman of Greenberg Traurig's global media and entertainment business and a strong Atlanta law firm, has exited "through mutual understanding."
A statement from the company's executive chairman Richard A. Rosenbaum said that Katz resigned on December 31.
The statement also read: "Our global entertainment business remains strong and diverse. With the assistance of President Bobby Rosenbloum in Atlanta, Vice President Barbara Meili in New York, and Dan Black in Los, it is the largest and most dynamic in the world. A spokesperson for Katz confirmed that the lawyer notified Greenberg Traurig of his resignation on December 31 and said he is currently on vacation.

Katz has been the external general counsel of the Recording Academy since 2002, which won a Grammy Award and served as a board member of the Academy in the mid-1990s.
In 2016, he negotiated a $600 million agreement to keep the Grammy Awards and additional Recording Academy programs on CBS until 2026. He is also a frequent visitor to the "Power 100" list of Billboard's annual music business tycoons.
Katz's influence in Atlanta was profound. He was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 1995, and in 2008, Governor Sonny Perdue renamed part of Northside Parkway to Joel Katz Parkway. Katz's nickname is also associated with the Kennesaw State Music and Entertainment Business Plan, which was named by Billboard as one of the top music business schools in the United States in 2019.
